Dairy Season final render by jermilex Dairy Season final render by jermilex
This was a large format (11,400 x 4200) illustration done in 3D (Maya) for Safeway foods. The idea is to promote dairy products and should be in stores soon. The process took about 3 1/2 weeks from concept design, modeling, texturing and lighting until final render. The 11k render itself took about 6 hours (for you tech heads)

Hi Jeremy,

i tried to mimic your rendering style using Vray for Maya. GI-wise I was successful but regarding lighting there are problems:
1- Sphere light is not treating like a key light, it needs to be very very intense to affect the scene!
2- Light Linking is not working with v-ray lights so all kicks and bounces will affect all things not just their own objects!

before, i am sooo thankful of all your helping comments all around.

Regards,
Hossein

Thanks Jeremy,

it was very helpful. the sphere light now acts as sun light but the problem is that there is no soft shadow option to make the shadows softer.
I am using V-Ray 1.5
the light linking problem is still there! May be I have to upgrade.

if you want a sphere light to act like the sun make sure to uncheck the falloff of the light and it will shine infinitely so you don't need the super high intensity. As for light linking... which version of Vray are you using? The first older version was broken and light linking did not work, but in newer releases it does work. Maybe you can ugrade. I hope this helps
