This is a for a prerendered isometric online game. The image on the left shows my initial loose concept design (removed per client request... sorry), and the image on the right shows my final 3D modeled, shaded and lit set (created in Autodesk Maya 8.5, rendered with MentalRay). For this project my good friend Brett has been helping me with some of the 3D modeling so I could focus on the concept designs and on the final shading/lighting. Check out Brett's excellent work for this location here... Seville

Thanks man! I'm slowly making progress on trying to create some nicely lit environments I'm working on. I'll be extremely happy if I can capture a mood with the lighting.
Oh... one more thing for the ground texture have you sued a layered shader with perhaps a fractal and ramp to achieve the dirt?

Sorry, so many question. Any plans on bringing out any more DVDs covering procedural shaders or a walk through on an environment?

Great! You need to post some of your work.

Yes, sometimes I use complex procedural networks to make textures, and sometimes I use file maps, or a mix of both.

Yes, if I can ever find the time to complete them, I have 2 new Gnomon DVD's in the works... one on procedural shading and one of lighting.

do you just use a basic shader ie a blinn for the water and did you plug an AO texture into it? Also how did you achieve the blurred reflections? has this been done post render?

Yes, the shader network is very simple. The water is a blinn with some MiReflectionBlur (under the mentalray tab on the shader) to give some blur with distance. Yes, the AO texture is plugged in for the water shader too.

This is amazing. But somehow, the shadows on the water is hurting my eye. Is it lacking a little movement?
