Several sets I did for backdrops for a new kid's video series. I created them in 3D (Maya). These were done very quickly (1 day each) and the goal was to have them playful, colorful, and very preschool but still cool. The theme is a Spy City with various locations. They were used as backgrounds with live action characters keyed over top.

Created in Maya.... wow I've posted very little of my 3D work up here on DA

I read that you did lighting for Pixar, so I will take your word ;) Working for them is one of my dream jobs. I am used to 3DS Max, but just started Maya so still getting used to the lights, they are a little touchy. Thanks for the reply.

what the texture you use?
it's only color?

No textures... only simple cartoony procedural shaders to keep it fast to create and to have the simple style the client was looking for

Really nice renders out there. I think if u put some basic cartoon wood let say on the wooden parts, and little noise on the walls let say to brake it a bit, would look like mind blowing:) lovely lighting BTW, I have your lighting dvd's for gnomon u did just amazed. Looking forward to learn lighting and make renders like these ones one day. :)

thanks for the good ideas. Unfortunately I only had 1 day each for making these (including all modeling, texturing and lighting), so those little details to make it perfect were dropped. I'm glad you like it

oo then that's really fast work impressive :). I start playing with Vray for maya lastly and I found out that u can make really cartoon smooth occlusion renders very fast, and make it look really great. And I would like to ask you if your lighting principles you explain in your Lighting dvd's can be used with Vray too, and is there any difference in how Vray Lights than the standard Maya Lights?

I recently started ti use Vray for Maya too but have had to completely change my workflow. Vray is so fast compared to MentalRay

From your experience with Vray for maya what do you think wich render engine is better for rendering massive scenes Vray or Mental ray? and I would like to ask you for your Vray renders if u can post some image of your lighting to see how ur doing it cause i have tried like I'm doing the standard mental ray lighting but not working well in Vray. Thank you.

I think Vray handles massive scenes much better than MentalRay. When lighting in Vray I do not use standard MentalRay lighting or shaders. My workflow is completely different, but it allows me to add much more subtlty to my renders that was difficult to achieve in MR
