Lumen Church Courtyard by jermilex Lumen Church Courtyard by jermilex
Set designed, modeled, textured and lit for an animated short film (not my own film). Concept sketch was done in Corel Painter 11, the 3D work was done in Autodesk Maya 2009.

We were going for a very playful colorful look, and yet tried to still feel believable

I had modeling help from my good friend Brett

this picture makes me think of one of my dreams to buy a church building and make it into my house. I think that would totally rock, plus there would be enough room for everyone!!

As always love your images,

Though the 3D version kind of looses the atmosphere which hangs around your artwork.

Thanks! Yes, there wasn't much budget for fine tuning the lighting on this one (only about an hour's work to get the lighting in place)

Kinda loses its charm once it goes to 3d, but can't be too picky I guess. I continue to OGLE at your charming works, and the lighting in the church!? amazing

Thank you! Yes, the switch from 2D to 3D can lose some subtle details, but that's life at this point in technology (and my budget for this project)

Bummer! Sometimes I hate technology... and then I love it... and then I hate it. I do hope you figure out what to do with your machine woes.

For some reason I thought of Coraline when seeing this for the first time, even though they're incredibly different haha.

I really like the 'bubbly' look of the buildings, very stylish and full of life :)

Just as with the church, it looks exactly as you drew it. ^_^
That must be very hard to do, since you have to translate every little detail correctly to 3d 'and' keep\preserve the toony look and shading as well! =3
I'm totally stunned! :D
