another try at getting an animated version of my painting up (flash). Corel Painter has an awesome feature of being able to record your painting as you do it. Hopefully this works, if it doesn't I'll delete this post

I used Corel Painter for this and used the ArtistOils/WetOilyPaletteKnife. I have another tutorial that's a video that describes my process far better (with audio even).... [link]

WHY does my system only record 3-6 frames when I am recording a live session via the script window?

I did what you did above some time ago, and I had no problem. However, it seems I cannot get it to record any more than several frames now...

thanks! It's technically different than a smear tool in Photoshop. It's an ArtistOils/WetOilyPaletteKnife in Corel Painter and it blends colors instead of pushing pixels. Very useful!

Thanks, this was helpful. I use Painter, but I haven't figured out how to make a movie like this...yet. Thanks for the inspiration.

You're most welcome! To make a movie in Painter, go to the scripts menu and hit record. It will then record everything you do (making a new file, painting, etc). Then hit stop and it will ask you what to name the script. Name it and then you can playback the script and it will play back everything you did while recording, minus the gaps in time. You can then take a screen capture of it playing back to turn it into a movie file (software other than Painter required for the screen capture... I'm on a Mac and use SnapZPro, on a PC Camtasia works great)

Thanks for the info - I guess what I'm still wondering about is, how do you edit it down, so that it isn't a recording of every single brushstroke? Most people do speeded up versions, which I find pretty useless as a learning tool. But you've done it so that it resembles an animation or a time-lapse movie. Did you use SnapZpro to do that?

TIA for your help

Well, when Painter plays it back it's like a time lapse movie in that it paints the strokes in real time without the gaps in between. SnapZPro was only used to capture the screen while Painter played it back.
