Artist's Comments

Another practice painting challenge in order to understand light better. Thank you to those of you who tried the first one. This one is a bit more complex. Now it's not a simple diffuse sphere with simple key and bounced light, theres are different materials in this one... reflective metal, translucent glass, etc.

The original photo is on the left and my painting is on the right.

The rules of the challenge are to copy the photo (the left image) without tracing or color picking. Try to recreate as much detail as you can in order to study what is actually happening with the light and color in the image. If you send me a link with what you do I'll post that link here for others to see and give you a critique of it.

Happy Painting! Keep practicing and your skills will grow.

As for a self critique I think I did not quite get the colors perfect (the bulb and the red floor). Please feel free to comment your thoughts too.

Apart from the bulb as you say, the colouring is perfect. The drawing is slightly stylised, but I think that makes it all the more interesting.

Thats really intruiging, you seem to have drawn thebulb more bulb shaped than the photo shows.
I might well try this but I don't think I'll upload it unless it comes out really really well.

Haha such a show off =D <3
Amazing work. I do think the color on the bulb is close enough, and you capture the material masterfully. Great work.

May I ask how long did it take you?

omg which one is painting and which one is photo ?!!

I know which you is as you noted on desc. but I'm confused :D

I thought it was a mentral ray render like Mr. Engleman did with his amazing sushi stuff.

Maybe a Maya tutorial of it for the 3d obsessed guys like me ? :headbang:
