Thumnail Challenge by jermilex Thumnail Challenge by jermilex
Here's something different. I did a bunch of thumbnail sketches (really fast... maybe 5 to 10 minutes each) as a way to explore some ideas. And I thought, why not post this as a challenge. These sketches are very rough and semi-abstract and up for alot of interpretation. So... if you want to take my challenge choose one of these thumbnails and create a piece from it. It's sort of like seeing shapes in the clouds. What do you imagine each of these is? Please post back here if you create something inspired from this sketch and link people to this post on your post.

Enjoy! Happy creating! I can't wait to see if anyone responds. :)

I gave the bottom left a shot. It's posted in my gallery. I'm new to digital painting so please help me out. I have a hard time working detail in. I was going for an underwater Mountain enclosed by a glass bubble. In the end though it just looks like a crummy copy of Jeremy's. I guess practice makes perfect though so I'm glad I tried it out. Thanks for the challenge Jermilex!

I'm going to try the bottom right and I'm going to repaint the bottom left now that I have a few new ideas to try thanks to your tips. I'll post back when I've got them done. =) Practice, Practice, Practice

Since I'm still scratching my head at your talents.. and still have yet to come up with a viable drawing to send back to you (I've deleted about 15 tries) I am adding this to my journal as a feature and a favorite. I hope that is ok with you! Rock on!

:) Thank you! Just keep drawing. We all have a million bad drawings in us so we might as well get them out now so we can get to the good ones. :)

Those are absolutely incredible. Marvelous compositions. The fact that you brewed up each one in approxiamately 5-10 minutes is, in itself, quite astounding.

I am getting a rather half-Star Wars, half-Star Trek-esque aroma from these. I suppose it is the use of dark, looming colors against the occasional moon-lit pastel that adds a nice flavor to each piece. Overall, it makes for a lovely contrast of light coupled with shadow.

Very nice, indeed. :)

Ha! Thanks for the high compliment. Keep constantly drawing and painting and you will reach the point where your brain can make up cool stuff. I still feel I struggle with it and only wish I could improve more. An Artist's work is never completed... only abondoned.

Give it your best try. The nice thing about art is that it's totally subjective so there's no wrong way to do it. You can't fail! :)

These are all very cool. When you ask us to build off the thumbnails, does prose work too, because I haven't started learning landscape drawing yet. I need to practice.

When I saw this first, I died. Then, I died again. And again.
This is so absolutely amazing. Even though they are only sketches/speedpaints, the game of light is terrific.
Every single one is a great material for a full scale art with some epic story.
